Talking Bodies, August 2021

My experience is indescribable by words. It was an opportunity to find a way how to get closer to myself and look at myself, and how to find the beginning of the way to my body. My personal questions were: ”Who am I?” “What do I want?”, “What do I feel”, “Where does it manifest itself in my body?”

Talking bodies was a training course focused on body work, movement and art expression. The whole concept was an Embodied arts laboratory where art facilitators were sharing their methods in workshops with Youth workers. We all were experiencing embodied techniques which can be utilised in work with people. An intense programme using methods from theatre, movement, clowning and others lasted for 6 days. The main focus was for belonging and connection.
At the beginning we wrote a guiding question that was meant to support our training and our directing, for example: How can I stay present in everyday busy life? At the end of the course we were able to answer the question.
I appreciated the approach of the main facilitators. They designed the program with lots of gaps for free time for reflection and adaptation.

I applied as an art facilitator and it was my first time that I was facilitating a workshop. It was a good experience and I received great feedback from the main facilitator. I’m not saying it was all positive but there were so many things spoken that pushed me forward and now I know what to do better for the next time.
The technique I was teaching was from Stratford Meisner and his famous exercise called Repetition. It is something that helped me in improvisation, as English is not my first language and I wanted to share my own experience from this exercise.
One thing I learned is that things I like as a performer don’t really have to be pleasant to teach and vice versa. If there’s something I really don’t like it can still be a good experience for someone else. I really enjoyed attending other’s people workshop and exploring movement without thinking.

My personal question were: ”Who am I?”, “What do I want?”, “What do I feel”, “Where does it manifest itself in my body?” The course was led by experienced coaches and it took place at beautiful house in Mallorca which also supported the above-mentioned experiences. I’m looking forward for the next course with this organisation. I would definitely like to attend another project in the future.
